My very first post, Indian Cumin Lemonade or Jaljeera is a popular Indian cooling beverage to quench the thirst during hot summer days. "Jal" means water and "jeera" means cumin. It is made with freshly roasted cumin seeds powder mixed with mint, cilantro, lemon juice, mango powder, black salt, sugar etc. then poured over crushed ice.
All you need to make this fantastic drink~
2 tsp cumin seeds
1/8 tsp hot chilli power (optional)
3/4 tsp black salt or Himalayan pink salt(I didn't have black salt)
1/3 cup freshly squeeze lemon/lime juice
1/4 cup raw sugar or as per taste
3 tsp amchur(dry mango powder)
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
1/4 cup fresh cilantro
4 cups cold water
1 cup crushed ice
Blend together all the ingredients to a smooth paste with one cup of water.Add one more cup of water And blend it again.Strain it very well at least 2-3 times.Transfer to a jug.Now add rest of the water and crushed ice.Refrigerate for 15 minutes and serve chilled with mint leaves.Stir it well before serving. So delicious.Kids will also enjoy for sure.
Note- This drink can be made up 2 days ahead. It will stay fresh in the refrigerator. If you don't have amchur add more lemon/lime juice. Adjust sweetness and sourness according to your palate.
