Nimona/Green Peas Curry

Nimona is one of the delicious recipes to make in a jiffy with a very basic pantry ingredients. It’s a staple winter dish of UP, India, made of green peas.

Green peas are available all year round in USA. So whenever craving for Nimona kicks in, Nimona is prepared to savor with plain rice , roti, paratha or grilled chicken. Here is my take on.

Ingredients~
1 cup coarsely blend green peas
1/4 cup green peas
3/4 cup diced potatoes
4 tbsp oil
1/2 cup roughly chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp each cumin and coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp garlic paste
1/2 tsp ginger paste
A handful of cilantro
3 green chilies
salt to taste
1 cup warm water

Method~
Blend together cilantro and 1 green chili and set aside. Heat oil over medium high heat. Add the bay leaf and saute the potatoes until golden brown.Remove potatoes from the pan, then add the chopped tomatoes, garlic ginger paste. Saute for a few minutes until raw smell is gone. Add the green peas paste and whole green peas, chilies and saute for a minute. Pour hot water. Add in rest of the spices, potatoes and salt. Boil for a minute and add blended cilantro. Give it a good stir, taste and adjust the seasonings. Serve with roti, rice or any other protein. Enjoy!

Happy Cooking!
