Bluegill Bhaja/Pan Fried Bluegill

Pan fried small fish, lentil stew and plain rice are the simply satisfying meal that we prefer sometimes. These small bluegills were caught from a local pond. They are very tasty fish.  Big ones are great for fish curry. Small ones are perfect for pan frying(no deep frying needed) and lentil stew on the side, savored with plain steamed rice!

Cleaning fish is not that difficult but bit messy. First cut the fins with kitchen scissors and scale the fish with the back of a knife from the tail to the head. Cut the gills and slightly slit belly horizontally and pull the gut out. Wash each fish pieces. Pat dry with paper towel.

Ingredients~
1 pound small bluegill
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
1/8- 1/4 tsp salt or as per taste
A pinch of  hot red chili powder
1/4 cup oil or as needed

Method~
Smear fish pieces with turmeric, chili powder and salt. Heat a cast iron pan on low medium heat for 2- 3 minutes. Fry both sides of 3-4 fish pieces (depending on the size of the pan) at a time for 3-4 minutes or till medium golden brown. Serve with lentil stew and rice. Enjoy this fishy deliciousness!

Happy fishing and cooking!!
